Abstract
ABSTRACT A new screening protocol, the Portsea Modified Clinical Technique, is evaluated in terms of the results acquired from screening 5,597 Australian children. The nature of the vision defects detected is examined. The significance of these defects to children and their amenability to optometric treatment is discussed. The expanded screening battery provides a broad clinical profile including information about the accommodative and vergence system. A detailed referral schedule has been devised which should facilitate the application of this protocol.
