The portfolio is a tool that enables the construction of self-knowledge and serves as evidence of professional preparedness in theory and practice. A content analysis of twenty portfolios led to the development of a typology of portfolios. Together with the questionnaire survey, it allowed to understand the role of the portfolio in the state final examination. The results show that the portfolio is perceived as a support in a psychologically challenging situation and its processing affects performance in the state final exam with regard to the ability to link theory with practice. The findings pointed to the necessity of looking for further ways to implement portfolio support activities throughout the study.
