Abstract

Introduction: Portal vein resection (PVR) is often performed during pancreaticoduodenectomy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) to obtain an R0 resection. Portal vein invasion is associated with larger tumours and higher stage which independently leads to a worse prognosis. This review compares outcomes of patients with PDAC undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy and PVR (PD+PVR) against standard pancreaticoduodenectomy (SPD) with matched patient characteristics and tumour stage.
