Abstract

This article reviews recent MEMS based sensors developed for the detection of E.Coli in water sample and provide us a path for biosensor design. In contrast with conventional and chemical methods of detecting E.Coli existence in the water, graphene which is an allotrope of carbon proves to be more advantageous in terms of producing faster response and may not demand laboratory setup for detection. A sensitivity of 60% was achieved for an E.Coli concentration of 4.5X 107 cfu/ml for a graphene based sensor on flexible acetate sheet, while in an another method graphene based field effect transistor was developed that depicted drastic increase in conductance when exposed to E.Coli concentration of 0-105 cfu/ml and finally in an another one, metal (gold) nano particles along with graphene paper was used in order to detect E.Coli in the range of 1.5X102 to 1.5X107 which paved new direction in the design of flexible immune based sensors.
