Abstract
Head traction has been found helpful for a number of complaints referable to the head, neck, and shoulders. Methods of applying such traction are extremely variable, depending on the effect desired. The apparatus to be described is designed ( 1 ) to be used in the patient's home as frequently as desired; (2) to have the stress supplied by the weight of the patient's body, rather than from a properly or improperly prescribed number of pounds of weight; (3) for portability, permitting its use in apartments in which the woodwork must not be marred by screws and its use by persons who travel; and finally, (4) for availability at reasonable cost, in a package. The apparatus consists of a conventional canvas head halter (see figure, a ). The commonly supplied metal spreader bar is discarded, and the rings of the halter are held in a wide loop tied in the end
