Abstract

Porous carbon materials are of great interest in various scientific and industrial applications because of their interesting physicochemical properties and their important surface-to-volume ratios. Environmental monitoring and food safety are among the most widespread research topics worldwide. High-performance platforms based on carbonaceous materials have recently made significant progress. According to a specific requirement, the surface of the carbon materials needs to be functionalized with various nanomaterials and composites. In this context, the method of porous carbon materials synthesis, the methods of surface functionalization, as well as the relative applications are discussed. We believed that understanding these parameters gives us high performances that could not be obtained by other means. To give the reader a clear vision of the implementation of this class of nanomaterials in platform architectures, a comparative study has been developed.
