Abstract

Some people might think that the law does not always protect us, and in many cases they are indeed correct. But when it comes to the proliferation of child pornography on the Internet, the law has sat up and taken notice. New laws and measures in the UK, Ireland and the United States have made the law look more akin to a thoroughbred horse, in this instance anyway. Operation Amethyst took the form of a nationwide dawn swoop in Ireland on the 27 May 2002. Carried out by the Gardai (police) Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Unit, over 100 homes and businesses were raided and computer equipment seized.
