Abstract

Summary Petrographic and petrophysical analyses have revealed that tight sandstone possesses distinct petrological properties that differentiate it from conventional sands. Diagenetic alteration changes a wide variety of fluvial, deltaic, and marine sands into similar low-permeability rocks with nearly identical pore structures. In this paper, changes in the pore geometry and petrology as conventional sandstones become tight are examined within a single East Texas sandstone formation.
