Abstract

A method of fixed partial denture construction has been described that gives optimum results with porcelain fused to gold. Porcelain, when fused to gold on the occlusal surface, adds to the rigidity of the structure because of its compressive strength. Porcelain on the occlusal and incisal surfaces also improves the esthetics by concealing the gold underneath and providing incisal translucency. The gold bar in the metal casting provides the necessary tensile strength and resistance to torque. The porcelain on the gingival side remains intact because of its thinness and the rigidity of the structure. The gingival side of the denture is always glazed.
