Abstract

Captive ring-tailed lemurs, Lemur catta, were assessed for hand preference in order to determine what the proportion of preference for the and right might be for the population. Twenty of a total of 22 animals showed left hand preferences consistently over four categories of spontaneous behaviours. Left-hand specialization for manipulation, accompanied by specialization for postural support involving the right forelimb occurs in the species.
