Abstract
An experimental method for population inversion detection between two energy levels of some species present in a plasma discharge is described. In particular it was possible to detect this mechanism on the 2p 4-3s 2 (Paschen notation) neon levels in a hollow-cathode tube by measuring the optogalvanic effect induced by a HeNe laser.
