Abstract
One of the parts of a biological profile that forensic anthropologists have traditionally estimated is race, ancestry, or ethnicity. The connection of biology to the social categories of race was debunked by scientists decades ago. The 19th century terminology of human groups persists despite mild attempts to mitigate the lack of scientific foundation and the use of vague and unfavorable words. Population affinity is offered as a method with a stronger focus on evolutionary theory, population history, trait selection, and population-level reference samples.
