Abstract

Imagery based on Tennyson's Arthurian poems appeared frequently in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Britain and America. Because of the popularity of Tennyson's verse and the perception that he was not only a great poet but also a moral one, this imagery was widely disseminated both through illustrated editions of his works and through its infusion into popular culture and daily life.
