Abstract

AbstractThe modifications in the time‐averaged plasma particle distribution functions in the presence of a large amplitude electromagnetic wave are studied. It is shown that the ponderomotive force is responsible for tail formation, non‐zero particle currents and heat fluxes. Explicit results, which describe those effects, are derived.
