Abstract

Accuracy in orthognathic surgery is dependent on a number of factors. First, meticulous preoperative evaluation including a critical clinical examination, dental models, face-bow, and occlusal registrations, is paramount in preparation for orthognathic surgery. The second step in the process is the accurate application of this data to the orthognathic model surgery, which in turn leads to the fabrication of accurate surgical splints. Finally, application of these splints, coupled with sound surgical technique, allows accurate positioning of the jaws at the time of surgery.
