Abstract

AbstractThe zone refining technique has been used both for the purification of cadmium iodide and for the growth of lead‐doped single crystals of cadmium iodide. The as‐grown crystals when studied by X‐ray diffraction show exclusive presence of the most common polytype 4H. The hexagonal plate‐shaped crystals of the doped material, grown from aqueous solution, show polytypism, but of a different nature than the crystals of pure cadmium iodide. The results have been discussed.
