Abstract

Abstract In this paper, the photoinitiated polymerization of thiols with isocyanate is studied by real-time FTIR. Different structures of photobase generators (PBG) based on quaternary ammonium salts of phenylglyoxylic acid were used as catalysts, releasing either weak or strong bases. A fast reaction leading to high conversion was possible only when 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU), 1,5-diazabicyclo[4.3.0]non-5-ene (DBN) or 1,1,3,3-tetramethylguanidine (TMG) are released from the corresponding PBG.
