Abstract

The fields of organic high-spin molecules and organic magnetic materials are historically and phenomenologically connected, with many lessons from the former aiding the development of the latter. Understanding the intramolecular interactions of multiple electron spins is a beginning point for the design and preparation of ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic organic materials. Stable high-spin organic molecules are envisioned as potential components of molecular-based magnetic materials. Also, the structure/property relationships afforded from studies of organic polyradicals are the cornerstones of attempts to build molecule-based bulk organic magnets.
