Abstract

We report the use of polyquinolines (POF66, P1F66) as electron transporting conjugated polymer for double-layer electroluminescence (EL) applications. A double-layer device structure combining P1F66 as electron transporting layer with the emissive poly(2-methoxy-5-(2′-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene) (MEHPPV) using aluminium cathode exhibited strong emission (maximum at 572 nm) of MEHPPV with luminance up to 167 μW/cm 2 (increased by a factor of 86). This double-layer device has a maximum quantum efficiency of 0.035%, which is a 35-fold increase compared to ITO/MEHPPV/Al single-layer device.
