Abstract
Almost two decades after She Tries Her Tongue; Her Silence Softly BreaksPhilip, NourbeSe M. (1988) and Wait Dorothy WaitCozier, Christopher (1991), Christopher Cozier began his mixed media drawing series Tropical NightCozier, Christopher (2006–ongoing), and two years later, in 2008, M. NourbeSe Philip published her elegiac book-length poem Zong!Philip, NourbeSe M. The fragmentation of form in the collage of various textual, visual, and musical registers present and evoked both in Wait Dorothy Wait and She Tries her Tongue, is exploded in the form of Tropical Night and Zong! where the fragmentation of visual signs and words is stretched across the space of the museum wall and the page.
