Abstract

Good poly phase code sets are proposed that are generated by adding appropriate discrete phase ramps to any single poly phase code with thumbtack ambiguity function. The proposed code sets have small autocorrelation side lobe peaks and cross-correlation peaks, both comparable to those of existing code sets in literature, but can provide a much larger population size. For a single poly phase code of length N and having a thumbtack ambiguity function, the number of poly phase codes in the proposed set can be as large as N, with very small autocorrelation side lobe peaks and cross-correlation peaks and without widening the occupied frequency band. However, this large population size comes at the cost of restricting the maximum allowed target speeds to levels that can still be significantly higher than a vast majority of realistic target speeds. They are suited for MIMO radars and Orthogonal Netted Radar Systems.
