Abstract
Generating functions F L for this determination of the irreducible representations of SU(2) contained in the symmetric tensor product of an arbitrary number of copies of a given representation ( L) of SU(2) are studied. A recursion procedure is obtained which relates the generating function F L to F L−2 and additional techniques for implementing the procedure are discussed. Similar procedures have proved useful in the evaluation of other generating functions.
