Abstract
Kidding records of 141 Berari goats were collected from different villages of Akola district between the years 2010 and 2013. The kidding pattern shows high prolificacy in Berari goats. In total, 20.56% single and 79.41% multiple births comprising of 69.50% twin, 9.22% triplet and 0.70% quadruplet births were found. A study was undertaken to investigate possible genetic polymorphism in BMPR-1B (Fec B) and BMP-15 (FecXG and FecXI) genes in Berari goats by forced PCR-RFLP technique. Blood samples were randomly collected from the Berari goats with known history of kidding in two generations reared in different villages of Akola district. Amplified products of FecB, FecXG and FecXI were digested by AvaII, HinfI and XbaI restriction enzymes, respectively to detect possible mutations. All the samples indicated absence of any of the mutated alleles and the population showed monomorphic pattern for all the loci. Thus BMPR-1B and BMP-15 genes are not polymorphic in Berari goat population studied and these findings may be further validated on a large sample size.
