Abstract

SummaryPolymorphism of serum transferrins in Siluridae (Ictalurus melas) was found by using starch gel electrophoresis of sera previously labelled with radioactive iron (59Fe).This polymorphism is based on the existence of 4 types of transferrins having different electrophoresis mobilities: types A, B, C and D. The types correspond with alleles at a single locus. Out of 10 theoretically possible phenotypes, 9 were observed by studying 140 individuals. These phenotypes differ between populations in two ponds in Sologne, France.
