Abstract

BackgroundIFN-ɣ is considered as one of the major cytokines in the immune responses against the infections. Various polymorphisms in this gene affect the biological functions, which have the ability to make predisposed individuals to some of the diseases. The aim of this study was investigating of polymorphism of IFN-ɣ gene in Azeri population in the +874 location. Materials and methodsBlood samples were collected from 240 healthy and non-relative Azeri population. The determination of IFN-ɣ genotypes was conducted through Allele-specific PCR method after DNA extraction. Thereafter, comparison of the frequency of alleles and IFN-ɣ genotypes with other populations was carried out with q-square test and p-value < .05 was considered as significant. ResultsThe percentage of AA, AT and TT genotypes frequency in the A/T IFN-ɣ +874 location in the healthy Azeri population was 45.42%, 40%, and 14.58% respectively and the percentage of A and T alleles frequency was 65.42% and 34.58%. ConclusionBased on statistical analysis, in the current study frequency of IFN-ɣ genotypes had a significant difference with most of the populations with ethnic diversities, however, these findings are in accordance with other reports from neighbor countries and other regions in Iran. This polymorphism can indicate a possible association with the predisposition and tuberculosis and asthma in this population.
