Abstract

The effect of vinyl monomers (styrene vinyl acetate, methyl methacrylate) on the transients involved in the pyrene-triethylamine system is studied. The results show that the photoinitiation of vinyl polymerization is due to the reaction of the pyrene radical anion with the monomers; since this process results in the regeneration of pyrene, the monomers effectively prevent the photobleaching of pyrene
