Abstract

The polycondensation of two furanic dialdehydes with aromatic, aliphatic and furanic diamines gave polymeric Schiff bases containing the heterocycle and the —CHN— function in each unit. Model compounds were also prepared to facilitate the characterization of the polymers. The thermal stabilities and electronic properties of the macromolecular materials were assessed and related to their structural features. Fully conjugated furanic-aromatic chains gave the highest decomposition temperatures and the most pronounced semiconducting behaviour.
