Abstract

Abstract Lanthanide complexes with dihydridobis(benzimidazolyl)borate (Ln(C14H12N4B)2Cl.H2O) [where Ln = Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III), Dy(III), Ho(III), Er(III) and Yb(III)] have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibililty, IR and electronic spectra. The Dy(III) and Yb(III) complexes have also been studied by thermogravimetric analysis. The nephelauxetic ratios (β), the bonding parameters (b½), Sinha's covalency parameters (δ %) and covalency angular parameters (η) have been calculated for the complexes of Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III), Ho(III) and Er(III). A seven-coordinated polymeric structure has been proposed for these complexes.
