Abstract

• pIgR in Actinopterygia is a type I membrane protein. • Has two immunoglobulin-like domains, identified as ILD1 and ILD2/ILD5. • Plays a key role in protecting the mucous membranes. • Its expression can be induced by cytokines, microorganisms and their metabolites. • Its function is the transport of IgT and IgM and the release of sIg in the mucus.
