Abstract

Telechelic poly(1,3-dioxolane) (PDXL) with methacrylate end groups were prepared by cationic ring opening polymerization of DXL carried out in the presence of methylenebis-oxyethyl methacrylate). Radical copolymerization of this polymer with vinyl monomers (styrene, butyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate) leads to the formation of polymer networks in which PDXL acts as a polymeric crosslinking agent. The resulting materials are insoluble in any solvent. Since the ceiling temperature of PDXL is low, the thus obtained networks can be de-crosslinked under mild conditions by treatment with a trace of cationic initiator.
