Abstract

In this study, we have developed solution-processible nanocomposites containing low leakage current and low loss polymer matrices, and high dielectric constant (k) ceramic nanoparticles. Taking advantage of the polymer matrix with high dielectric strength performance as well as the high k nanoparticle filler, improved dielectric characteristics and high frequency performance of the nanocomposites have been achieved. Dielectric and electrical properties of the as-prepared BT nanocomposites were investigated. According to our preliminary result, a k value of 52 and a capacitance density of 11 nF/cm 2 were achieved for a composite with 50 vol. % filler loading. And the dielectric breakdown strength could be maintained above 800 kV/cm, which is even higher than some of the polymers themselves.Coplanar waveguides (CPW) were fabricated with this material to characterize the dielectric performance of the hi-k coatings up to 40 GHz. The test results demonstrate that the coating material has nominal change in dielectric properties from 10 kHz up to 40 GHz.
