Abstract

ABSTRACTThe emerging technology based around polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs) promises to have many advantages over existing electroluminescence technologies. Lightweight, battery operated, and highly visible pixellated displays may be beneficial for a broad range of applications in portable electronics, ranging from simple alphanumeric displays to high information content flat panel displays.PLED displays have now reached a level of performance that is attractive for commercial applications, with operating lifetimes in excess of 10,000 hrs, luminance levels of several hundred cd/m2 and battery‐compatible operating voltages. In this talk we discuss the lifetime and readability issues of passively‐addressed matrix displays developed at UNIAX Corporation.
