Abstract

The behaviour in dilute solution of poly(monobenzyl itaconate) (PMBzI) covering the range M w = 3.1 × 10° to 19.28 × 10 4 has been studied in THF (good solvent) and methanol (θ-solvent) at 298 K. The Kuhn-Mark-Houwink-Sakurada relations were established and the unperturbed dimensions, flexibility factor “σ” and thermodynamic parameter B were calculated using Stockmayer and Fixman equation. The results indicate that σ is similar to that for poly(mono- n.octyl itaconate) from THF solutions, but very different from that for poly(dibenzyl itaconate).
