Abstract

A newly formulated, biodegradable, and water-soluble hydrogel disperses biofilms and shows promise as a topical antimicrobial treatment against a variety of bacterial and fungal pathogens, according to Yi-Yan Yang of the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology in Singapore, and her collaborators there and at the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, Calif. Details appear in the January 7, 2013 Angewandte Chemie (52:674–678; doi: 10.1002/anie.201206053).
