Abstract
The anionic polymerization of ketomalonic acid disodium salt via a ketone carbonyl group, initiated by the in situ generation of the carbanion of tartronic acid disodium salt, was observed in the preparation of tartronic acid disodium salt by catalytic oxidation of glycerol in a basic aqueous solution using a fixed-bed reactor packed with palladium based catalyst. Model reactions using authentic reagents of tartronic acid and ketomalonic acid demonstrated the anionic polymerization of ketomalonic acid disodium salt.
