Abstract
Positive and negative ions of the type C 2 n (30⩽2 n⩽210) and C 2 n+1 H x ( x⩽2), called polyhedral ions in this Letter, have been found in hydrocarbon flames. They are formed simultaneously with the smallest soot particles at the end of the reaction zone succeeding the formation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon ions of equal mass.
