Abstract
An important factor in determining the quality of ldpe film types is the content of gel particles in the film measured immediately after processing of the ldpe granulate.In the production of ldpe, gel formation is usually encountered only incidentally. The product quality of ldpe batches (100 to 200 tons) can be raised by spotting and placing apart the small quantities of ldpe granulate having a high gel content. To this purpose an inspection unit has been designed with as principal component the automatic gel counting device of DSM - Enraf Nonius.This paper describes several aspects of the inspection unit, with which some experience has been obtained in an ldpe plant, in which the unit has been installed on line with the product stream.
