Abstract

Polyembryoma is a rare neoplasm composed exclusively of embryoid bodies arranged in a pattern resembling the presomite embryo prior to day 18 of development. Patients who present with these tumors often have substantially elevated serum alpha-fetoprotein levels. Furthermore, these neoplasms exhibit the same malignant behavior as other non-seminomatous germ cell tumors. We report a case of polyembryoma of testis in a 38-year-old man who presented with a 2-month history of right-sided scrotal enlargement. Primary clinical examination revealed a solid, markedly enlarged right testis and an elevated serum alfafetoprotein level (247.1 mg/mL). The patient underwent a radical orchiectomy of the right testis and received 3 cycles of chemotherapy after the operation. The patient was well at 4-year follow-up.
