Abstract

Polyelectrolyte multilayers deposited onto particles are exploited as thin films for localizing sol−gel reactions of inorganic precursors at particle surfaces, yielding core−shell colloids with defined shell thicknesses. The image shows silica colloids coated with a polyelectrolyte/titania shell.
