Abstract

The magnetic and crystallographic properties of Y/sub 3/Fe/sub 5/O/sub 12/ thick films prepared by KrF excimer laser ablation of a stoichiometric garnet target was investigated. It was possible to obtain almost epitaxially oriented films on Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ (11~02). Although the crystalline quality depends on substrate temperature and O/sub 2/ partial pressure used, 4.1 /spl mu/m thick films of 4/spl pi/ Ms=1300 Gauss and H/sub c/=37.5 Oe were obtained at the substrate temperature of 700/spl deg/C with P(O/sub 2/) of 100 mTorr after annealing the as-deposited films at 600/spl deg/C for 2 hours. These films are expected to be used for magnetostatic spin wave filters at narrow bandwidth frequency.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
