Abstract

Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a systemic vasculitis that affects medium-sized muscular arteries.1 Abdominal complications resulting from mesenteric vasculitis are observed in up to 50% of patients with PAN.2-4 Presenting GI manifestations include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, acute abdomen and, rarely, GI bleeding in the form of hematemesis, melena, and occult bleeding.5 The most feared complications are GI infarction, bowel necrosis, aneurysmal rupture, and massive GI bleeding,6 which are usually due to rupture of aneurysms.
