Abstract
The asymmetric unit of the title compound, {[Ni(C7H3NO4)(C10H8N2)(H2O)]·H2O}n, contains one nickel cation chelated by a 2,2′-bipyridine ligand and further coordinated by two monodentate carboxylate groups belonging to two independent pyridine-3,4-dicarboxylate ligands and one water molecule. The NiII atom is six-coordinate, exhibiting octahedral geometry with three N and three O atoms. Each pair of neighbouring NiII cations is bridged by two independent pyridine-3,4-dicarboxylate ligands, which are coordinated to two further NiII cations through pyridine N atoms to give corrugated layers parallel to the (110) plane. The coordinated and uncoordinated water molecules act as donors in O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
