Abstract

The copolymer poly(acrylamide-co-4-vinylpyridine) (P(AM-co-4-VP); PAV) of acrylamide (AM) and 4-vinylpyridine (4-VP) was synthesized by conventional radical copolymerization then quaternized by reaction with an alkyl bromide with a C8 carbon chain to produce the copolymer series of cationic bromide octanes poly(acrylamide-co-4-vinypyridine) CPAVC8Br2 (I), (II), and (III). The structure and composition of the cationic copolymers CPAVC8Br2 were characterized by conductimetry, FTIR, UV–visible, and 1H NMR spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Energy dispersion x-ray spectroscopy (EDX).
