Abstract
Boron can do it! Readily prepared catecholboron enolates act as regulators in the controlled radical polymerization of alkyl and aryl vinyl ketones. Control is achieved by an unprecedented reversible radical boron group transfer (BGT) between enoyl radicals (see scheme). Polymers with Mn≤14 000 g mol−1 and a polydispersity index of 1.3 can be obtained by this process.
