Abstract

AbstractStigma and pollen types are reviewed in eight species of genusLimoniumby light and scanning microscopy. A careful examination of most Egyptian species ofLimoniumreveals that this genus is distinctly dimorphic in stigma and pollen types. On the basis of the stigma type and the exine pattern, two distinct pollen types are recognized viz., Pollen type‐A (comprisesLimonium axillareandL. meyeri) and Pollen type‐B (comprises the rest studied species ofLimonium). Description of each type, a key to the investigated taxa as well as LM and SEM micrographs of pollen grains are provided. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
