Abstract

Pollen grains of 14 Muscari species, five of which are endemic to the Turkey, belonging to the subgenera Muscari, Leopoldia and Botryanthus, were investigated under LM (light microscope), SEM (scanning electron microscope), and pollen of two species under TEM (transmission electron microscope). Pollen grains are shed as monads. They are monosulcate, isopolar and of bilateral symmetry. M. coeleste Fomin sometimes sheds the pollen as dyads. The characteristic structures of pollen ornamentation, observed in SEM micrographs, are reticulate and suprareticulate. The exine is semitectate and the tectum perforate.
