Abstract

Abstract This study tested Rokeach's (1973) two-value model of politics on an Australian sample. Eighty subjects, being 10 members and 10 supporters of each of the Labor, Liberal, Democrat, and National parties, rated the Terminal Values list from the Rokeach Value Survey. Results showed that Labor and Democrat supporters valued equality significantly more highly than did Liberals or Nationals, as predicted by the two-value model. Freedom, however, did not distinguish between the parties. The implications of these findings for the two-value model are discussed.
