Abstract

INTRODUCTION: In this course we will examine the political problems of natural resource use and the maintenance of environmental quality. We will give particular attention to theoretical foundations for environmental policy and its evaluation, the political context of environmental policy, principles of administering environmental policies. We will not attempt a comprehensive survey of local state, national, or international environmental problems, institutions, or laws, but we will look briefly at a few to provide practical examples of general points and to illustrate the breadth and complexity of policy making in this area.
