Abstract
The aim to identify the types of political relationship among monuments can be defined as the main goal of the article. Regarding the ongoing debate about the politicization of monuments in Lithuania, the article seeks to find out what features and functions of monuments make them the subject of political controversy and political discussion. The analysis starts with theoretical assumptions distinguishing the types of relationship between monuments and politics that dominate the theoretical level. After the review of the theoretical level, the typology of the relationship between politics and monuments in Lithuania is explained highlighting the exceptions of the Lithuanian case by going through the typological analysis of the Lithuanian academic discourse.

Tačiau kalbėjimas apie galbūt tiesioginius politinius tikslus dažniausiai lieka plačiau neanalizuojamas, politikos ir paminklų santykį priimant kaip duotybę, bet ne detalesnės analizės reikalaujantį aspektą, įtraukiantį klausimus apie tai, kokiomis kryptimis gali vystytis politikos ir paminklų santykis, kokias politines reikšmes kuria viešosiose erdvėse stovintys paminklai ir koks yra jų ryšys su kitais įpaminklintais istoriniais veikėjais ar įvykiais bei kokio lygmens – valstybinio, savivaldos – politinius tikslus jie galbūt padeda pasiekti. Atkreiptinas dėmesys, kad didieji Lietuvos miestai, tarp kurių neabejotinai dominuojančią poziciją užima Vilnius, tokio pobūdžio tyrimuose diktuoja ir tam tikrus metodologinius sprendimus, tai yra funkcionuoja ir kaip pagrindinis paminklų atrankos kriterijus, atveriantis erdvę kalbėjimui ne apie valstybės tapatybę, su kuria, remiantis teorinėmis prieigomis ir užsienio analizėmis, gali būti siejami paminklai, bet apie miesto tapatumą. 74 Burinskaitė I., „Lietuvių memorialiniai paminklai svetimšalių darbuose“, Lietuvos etnologija 7 (35), 2002, p. 89–103
