Abstract

There is an increasing need for dialogue between the currently dominant civilization (based on Judeo-Christian values) and the dormant Islamic civilization. This is the alternative to present reactions which veer between zealous rejection (accompanied by such phenomena as terrorism and Herodian imitation). Understanding the psychological bases for such reactions, as well as the role of religion in motivating individuals and societies, can help in the facilitation of such dialogue.
